Intensive, thorough evaluations to determine whether a 24/7 comprehensive therapeutic care setting is the appropriate next step for a student in significant crisis.

When is a Residential Treatment Center considered?

Residential Treatment Center assessments are conducted when a student is having a significant amount of difficulty accessing their academic program due to severe social-emotional issues or crises. When social-emotional difficulties impact a student's ability to physically attend school or access education in an alternative way (e.g., home-hospital teaching, a modified school day, a county program, or a non-public school), a consideration for a 24-hour, 7-day-a-week comprehensive therapeutic care setting is evaluated.

Residential Treatment Center placements are typically reserved for significantly impacted students who have attempted several educational interventions with little to no progress, such as:

Emotional Programs

Social-emotional programs on comprehensive school campuses.

County Schools

County school programs with therapeutic components.

Non-Public Schools

Non-public schools with heavy mental health supports and high staff-to-student ratios.

Intensive Counseling

Educationally related counseling or wrap-around services.

When students reach this level of support need - the highest level of educational support available - they have often been in significant crisis or hospitalized numerous times for suicidal ideation or self-injurious behavior, and parents are no longer able to help them on their own across all settings without significant support or resources.

I have over 8 years of experience assessing students for RTC consideration, visiting residential programs in various states throughout the United States, and completing intensive and thorough RTC evaluations to make an informed recommendation for RTC placement.
