You may be in a situation where your child is doing well academically, but struggling with the social-emotional and behavioral piece that isn't getting addressed in their current placement. Maybe they need extra time on tests due to anxiety, or maybe they lose focus easily and require accommodations to succeed. Maybe their teacher has been mitigating difficulty by informally accommodating your child's needs - but it's not officially in a document.
Here's where I come in. I can help you ask for accommodations and supports through a 504 plan if you believe your child is struggling due to a disability but does not meet educational eligibility requirements for special education services.
A 504 plan is a general education function and operates completely through general education - your child does not need to qualify for special education to receive one.
When appropriate and if criterion are met, we provide a DSM-5-TR diagnosis with recommendations for home, school, and community to support the need for 504 accommodations which can connect your child with necessary resources to be successful. While a diagnosis is not necessary for a 504 plan, it often helps when districts are reluctant to pursue one. Diagnoses can also assist your child in receiving mental health supports and resources.
